Ideally, you’ll be able to ride out any storm from the comfort of your own home. But every so often a hurricane comes along that forces your hand and makes evacuating your home a necessity. During hurricane season you’ll want to have a “Go-Bag” ready so you can hit the road at a moment’s notice if an emergency evacuation is ordered. Trying to throw together a bag at the last minute could delay your evacuation, leaving you vulnerable to getting caught out in the nasty weather. It could also leave you in such a rush that you forget a few crucial items. So don’t wait! Get your “Go-Bag” packed now so you’ll be ready to go when the going gets tough.
Items we recommend for your “Go-Bag”:
- Copies of important documents kept in waterproof bag
- Extra sets of all keys
- Extra mobile phone charger
- Bottled water
- Dry snacks (energy bars, granola bars)
- First aid kit (individual items listed in previous post)
- Portable radio: tune in to KUHF 88.7 FM or KTRH 740 AM for weather updates
- Pack of needed batteries types
- Extra toothpaste and toothbrushes
- Bar soap
- Toilet paper
- Rain gear (essential-poncho)
- Flashlights (battery powered or hand crank)
Be sure to notify friends and family members of where you are headed, and touch base with them again once you’ve made it safely to your destination.
